Cholmondeley’s mission is for every child to the end their stay at the centre with an enhanced wellbeing.
Its whakataukī is ‘Whakanuia a tatou tamariki/Value our children’ and its’ vision is ‘Tamariki are nurtured, strong and resilient. Whānau are self-managing and empowered.’
Cholmondeley values the voice of the tamariki throughout its processes to ensure they are heard and that decisions come from the tamariki to empower them, rather than decisions being made for them by adults.

Intermediate boys weekend activity costs
I would like to respectfully request $2,000 to contribute towards activity costs for the remaining intermediate boys’ weekends of the 2023/24 financial year. Alongside Cholmondeley's regular respite care it also offers dedicated intermediate boys’ weekends for tama (boys) aged 10-13. These three-night stays bring the same group of boys together quarterly to gain extra support to navigate their intermediate years. The weekends include workshops focusing on managing emotions, staying safe online, building friendships and participating in physical activities to safely test their comfort zones.
Each quarter there are 10 – 15 tama who come to stay at the centre for the weekend. This funding will also indirectly impact these tama’s whānau as it will give them the respite needed while their tamariki are being cared for at Cholmondeley. Cholmondeley’s services tie into three of the John Ilott Charitable Trust funding criteria, as it supports families adversely impacted, improves life outcomes of children and young people and provides educational activities to the community.
The expected outcomes of these intermediate boys’ weekends are for Cholmondeley to enhance the wellbeing and resilience of these tama. Cholmondeley provides a safe and fun environment for tamariki and rangatahi to thrive and learn their strengths. These weekends are also a chance for the tama to form strong friendships, as it is the same group of tama every quarter.
As this funding will go towards activities for these weekends, Cholmondeley expects the tama will be trying new activities which could safely test their comfort zones enabling them to learn what they are capable of.
