Project overview

Name of the project

Lifting the Lid

Purpose of the project and the expected outcomes

We are currently introducing this program into the Secondary Schools within the Porirua region.
Lifting the Lid is a Rotary initiative aimed at funding local schools in assisting our young people, who are facing mental struggles, obtain the professional specialised support they require above and beyond the day to day counselling avaialble via the schools. The program is fuelled by compassion, empathy and a shared committment to the wellbeing of our youth.

Who are your beneficiaries or who will benefit from this project

The beneficiaries of this program are not just the immendiate youths who are able to obtain the necessary counselling services but also their immediate families and the staff and other youths at the schools where they are studying. All these people receive benefits when one's mental struggles are recognised and addressed.
We beieve that this program directky addresses item 6 of your criteria
"Projects to assist with problems of children and young people"

When are the expected outcomes realised?

We expect that the outcomes will be evident quarterly when we will be having Feedback Meetings with the schools in the program.

Is it ongoing project?

Yes

Please advise when it started and when it is expected to finish

The program has been running on the Kapiti Coast for some 3-4 years and in Wellington City for approx 2 years.
This is an extension of the program into the Porirua region by the Rotary Club of Plimmerton and the Porirua Chapter of the Mana Tangata Club. We anticipate this will be an ongoing program for a number of years until such time as Govt Funding is more appropriately directed to address this need
